Daniel Angerhausen – Professional Communication in Academia 101

#PizzaSeminar

Title: “Professional Communication in Academia 101”
Speaker: Daniel Angerhausen (ETH Zurich, Institute for Particle Physics & Astrophysics, Switzerland)

Science Communication is more than outreach. Every time scientists communicate within or outside their communities, at conferences, in proposals or with policy makers, communication skills are key. In particular in multidisciplinary subject areas the ability to translate between the scientific fields is crucial. Explainables is an initiative with the goal to help fellow academics and in particular early career scientists to improve their communication skills in all contexts. We are a team of highly qualified young science speakers, communication & design coaches, and technology consultants from all over the globe. We offer various workshop formats that range from storytelling and message distilling, cross-cultural communication to designing (info)graphics and developing personal brands in academia and cover topics such as proposal writing or project communications. In this one hour session we will present some key lessons from this portfolio – focusing on Storytelling & Message Distilling, Personal Branding & Networking in Academia and Proposal Writing.

Presented by Ross Parry, Professor of Museum Technology, University of Leicester
